CHARACTER CREATION ================== Characters are created on a rough point-based system. First one allocates up a given number of background points on things like attributes, gifts, and flaws. Then one has a number of skill points to put into talents and skills. ATTRIBUTES There are four pairs of Attributes. Each pair consists of one physical attribute and the related mental attribute, in keeping with the nature of the world. The pairs are: Health and Memory; Strength and Willpower; Quickness and Perception; Comliness and Presence. _Health_ is the general measure of stamina and fortitude. It deter- mines how well you resist disease, staunch bleeding, and heal wounds. It also influences how much you can exert yourself, and how much punishment you can take before collapsing. However, Health does _not_ take into account the size of a character's physique. A healthy character may be slight of build, but in proportion to his size, he will be tougher. _Memory_ is the ability to commit things to memory, rather than the total capacity. A person with a high memory will recall in greater detail the events of last month, and he will also have an easier time reciting a long poem given to him the day before. A person with a lower memory might recall the poem just as well, but he would have had a much harder time memorizing it. _Strength_ is sheer physical power - your ability to lift, shove, push, and heave. It is important in melee, but often, just a show of strength will have great effect. It is useful for threatening and dominating as well as the out-and-out use of force. _Willpower_ is a measure of your mental ... _Quickness_ is your speed of reaction and reflexes. It influences both how fast you can run, and how soon you can respond to danger. _Perception_ indicates how well you notice what is going on around you. While sometimes it is a conscious thing, Perception more often works intuitively. _Comliness_ is a measure of your appearance: your face and form, as well as your voice, posture, and demeanor. Of course, individual tastes vary, but this is a general measure of attractiveness within the culture. It can be very important in a prejudiced world, where people are often judged by their looks more than their ability. _Presence_ is a more indefinable quality: your outgoingness ...
