* Long ago, the elves got tired of constant racial warfare driven by racial gods. They conquered all other races, and started a golden age with flying cities and a network of teleportation portals. * The halflings were a starfaring race, who arrived but were concerned that the teleportation magic and abandoning the gods would open the world to demons. They set up "The Veil" - which prevented the halflings from leaving the planet and prevented all teleportation magic from working. This was known as "The Stop", and caused a total collapse of civilization. * Haven was a agricultural village in an isolated valley. Refugees were lead there by Theen and Dagda. * A thousand years later, Haven is a thriving community. * The first campaign PCs were set up in Haven, above the Whiterock Academy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ There has been about 500 years after the period of the first Haven campaign. Important events include: * Haven has grown very large, draining the swamps to the south for farmland, and got into wars with the Rusted Lands about 100 years later. A warlord named Vorn attacked them, using magic from stolen books that resulted in demons appearing. * The Rust Angels and Haven made a treaty against demons. Haven opened its grain markets, and Vorn went east and founded the city of Vornheim. An order of demon-hunters was founded (called "The Order"). * Old-style wizardry (except for greensingers) is only allowed from the Whiterock Academy, whose practitioners are under severe restrictions and must take a number of oaths. * Greensingers are farming wizards and healers that can openly practice. * Mechana are steam-powered, runically-inscribed robots with no free will or mind. Typically a person has only one mechanum that they are bonded to, that they can give telepathic commands to. * Ti'xnas was the driving force behind airships and mechana. He married a young elf named Evelyn Gloam, who is now pregnant. He wanted to achieve true automata. * Three months ago, Ti'xnas figured out how to make true automata, and he was killed by an automata. His (male) elf assistant Wilifred has promised that everyone will get automata. * Evelyn needs to get out of town, and is hiring a crew for the Improbable to take her to Vornheim. She is offering the Improbable as payment to take her and protect her from Wilifred - who is the actual murderer of Ti'xnas. (Secretly, she is pregnant with Ti'xnas' first child.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rather than buying individual spells, you invest levels in your elemental talent. The talents are air, earth, fire, and water. Another broad talent is rune-smithing, who cannot channel elements but can inscribe and activate runes that require charging by an elemental talent. A steamship requires fire and water to power the steam engine, air for lift, and earth to have a keel that allows steering. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Improbable is unlike most other airships that has no passive source of lift. It requires channeled air power to stay aloft. * Megan playing Karis Mountainheart, a dwarf pilot and Earth adept, with a set of steambot wings for flying * Guy playing Bob, an anti-social human engineer and cogsmith, with a powerful falcon-like steambot * Chrissy playing Astrid Flula, a 100-year-old elf water adept/healer/greensinger, raised in Haven, with long white hair and a companion mobile plant named "Tangle Steve" * John playing Montgomery-Emerson Prator-Fisk, a halfling airship captain ("Napolean ninja") and air adept * Laura playing Phrynne - a human demon hunter and runesmith * Jenny playing Boots - an elf ninja with an ocelot ("Spots") * Joe playing Ethan - a human air adept, who seems to secretly be a wizard * Anami playing Leah - a young elf (70 year old) apprentice demon hunter who quit the order, and fire adept * Tazz (temporary player) playing Seamus, an artistic runesmith
