John's Favorite Quotes

Most of these quotes are rather morbid - but really I'm a fairly optimistic person. I just like nasty sayings.

``If I wasn't real,'' Alice said, half-crying through her tears, it all seemed so ridiculous, ``I shouldn't be able to cry.''
``I hope you don't think those are real tears.'' Tweedledum interrupted in a tone of great contempt.

Trust your little finger
Just a single little finger can
Save the world.
- Steven Sondheim, "Assassins"
``Of the various executive abilities, no one excited more anxious concern than that of placing the interests of our fellow-citizens in the hands of honest men, with understanding sufficient for their stations. No duty is at the same time more difficult to fulfil. The knowledge of character possessed by a single individual is of necessity limited.
To seek out the best through the whole Union, we must resort to the information which from the best of men, acting disinterestedly and with the purest motives, is sometimes incorrect.

Here we may reign secure; and in my choice
To reign is worth ambition, though in hell:
Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven.

``That is a favored tactic.'' Akten said.
- John Ford, "The Final Reflection"

Ezekiel 25:17
``The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children.
And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.''
