Units (ESUs) replace the now defunct cybertechnology
with machines that work completely outside of the human body. Most ESUs
are strapped on the body parts they shall enhance, or come in the form
of coveralls. Due to their experience with advanced technologies, ESU producers
have been able to come very close to cybernetic technology standards. ESUs
may sometimes look clumsy or weird, but they're highly complex technology.
This page gives you information on some of the most common ESUs that can be found on Mobworld's streets. |
Cartwick's Fine Infernal
Devices, Inc. is one of the most renowned manufaturers of ESUs. Cartwick
was heavily into cybertechnology before the world was struck by the Mortal's
War. Suddenly, all cybertechnology malfunctioned and finally ceased to
work. Cartwick was lucky, because they managed to switch relatively quickly
from cybertechnology to extra-somatic tech. Many cyber corps pulled this
stunt, but only a few have survived it.

| Head
Bloks
Head Bloks are helmet-like ESUs that serve mind-enhancing purposes. They are equipped with specialized high-performance computers. The bloks monitor the electrical impulses of the brain. Whenever a certain task is required, the blok's software sends a very small electrical impulse to the area of the brain that is responsible for this kind of task. Most head bloks are made of nylon or PVC. Extra-light head bloks exist, but they're about three to four times more expensive than average bloks. Average head bloks ("helmets") weigh about one kilogram and offer some protection against head injuries (albeit minimal). Extra-light head bloks ("caps") weigh only a few grams. Helmets work with fiberglass needles that are only few nanometers thin - the user doesn't notice them. Due to this direct connection between helmet head blok and head, helmets work faster and more reliable than caps. Caps have dermatrodes that are attached to the user's temples. Their connection is slower and more prone to processing errors.

Bod Suits Bod Suits are ESUs that improve or enhance torso capabilities. Bod Suits look like rugged jackets. Like Head Bloks, they work with fiberglass needles and/or dermatrodes. The human torso contains the most important parts of the body: the internal organs. Organs don't improve much when they're electrified, so all bod suits use infusions to force them to do more or better work. Therefor, bod suits are the only kind of ESU that come with an infusion tank to be carried on the back or, if smaller, somewhere inside the suit. Again, there are dozens of corporations that offer dozens of different bod suits. We strongly recommand that you come up with your own ideas here; bod suits are a vast playground for imagination. You may have notice that extra-somatic units have fancy (pseudo) scientific names. This is part and parcel of a billion-dollar industry that wants its customers to believe they're buying the best of the best.

Limb Gadgets Limb Gadgets improve or enhance arm, hand, leg, or foot capabilities. Limb Gadgets either come as jackets (like Bod Suits), or as devices strapped to the limb that is to be enhanced. They work with fiberglass needles (the faster and more reliable option) or dermatrodes (less desirable because of malfunctions). Limbs are the body's tools, thus limb gadgets serve hundreds of different purposes. |
