like Waite he does not yet take it seriously.

A philologist working as an archivist at the British Museum.
Now 50 years old, he is a cultured man and a member of the
Apostles Club at Cambridge. He is outspoken in his criticism
of British academic philology, but failed to obtain a
professorship at either Oxford or Cambridge. Wife and
two daughters live near Tuvingen in Bavarian Alps.

- Dr. Peter H. Woodsworth (played by Daniel)
A medical doctor, now 52, working as a coroner. His wife died
in 1889, after which he went into a bout depression and
drinking. Eventually, he was brought out of it, with treatment
by Dr. Hugh Norton and the support of Dr. Westcott, founder of
the Golden Dawn. Westcott helped him get his current position,
and he has been a GD member for 2 years, seeking in particular
speaking with the dead.

A doctor and alienist who works at St. Agatha's Asylum
(in the North of London, St. John's Wood).
Now 36 years old, he went to Eton and Cambridge, and served
with the army in Egypt prior to a moderately distinguished
career. He is not a member of the Golden Dawn. However, Dr.
Woodsworth is a friend and former patient of his, and he
has taken an interest in his activities.

science, bit of a buffoon socially. He comes from a rich

a rake and social firefly in the occult scene. He died late
September 1893 in a mysterious fire with all his servants at
his estate in Loughton.
- Rev. Edwin Bristol
Vicar of the parish in Rochester. He took Joan Bayldon to
St. Agatha's for treatment after her breakdown at the time of
her sister's death.
- Inspector John Craig
An inspector for Scotland Yard, assigned to the murder of Lord
- Colonel Albert Hardewick
A friend of Northcote's, also a mason but not in the GD.
- Nathan Hardewick
The 20 year-old nephew of Albert Hardewick, living as his ward.
- Malcolm Howard
An official within the Foreign Office with a non-descript job.
He was formerly a writer of fiction and amateur astronomer.
Now he has contacts in the Navy and makes regular trips to
Oxford and Cambridge.
- David Knightly
An agent of the Foreign Office who contacted Norton.
