     This is a page of gaming conventions which I have attended or am considering attending. I have started writing up convention reports on the ones I attend. Conventions I Recently Attended

AmberCon NorthWest: November in Portland, OR

A gaming convention in Oregon devoted to the Amber Diceless RPG by Erick Wujcik. GMs should submit games by Sep 3. Deadlines for preregistration are July 2 (must have at least 60 members by this point), and August 27.

3DBCon: April in San Francisco, CA

A new mini-convention (with seven events) hosted at Three Dollar Bill Cafe in San Francisco's LGBT Community Center. Billed as "a gaming convention for the people, by the people."

ConQuest: End of August in Burlingame, CA

A Bay Area convention, currently going through change of ownership. GMs should submit games by end of July. Pre-register by early August.

DundraCon: Mid-February in San Ramon

A large area convention, the "World's Longest Continuously Running RPG Convention". GMs should submit games by New Years. Preregister by end of October at reduced price, or by end of January otherwise.

End Game's Mini-Con: Quarterly in Oakland

This is single-day mini-convention emphasizing recent independent games, held at a local game store in Oakland ("End Game"). They are being scheduled quarterly, starting in 2006.

GenCon Indy: August in Indianapolis

I attended my first GenCon -- the largest gaming convention in the U.S. and probably the world -- in 2006. The start date for event submissions is early January. Events must be submitted by the event submission deadline, which is mid-April.

Go Play NorthWest

A mini-convention of indie gamers in Seattle, held in early summer starting in 2007.

Knutepunkt: Spring in Scandanavia

A cross-Scandanavian live-action role-playing theory convention. The name means "Nodal Point", and it changes name year to year as it rotates between Sweden (Knutpunkt), Denmark (Knudepunkt), Finland (Solmukohta), and Norway (Knutepunkt). Each year a book is published: articles should generally be submitted by December.

KublaCon: Late May in Burlingame, CA

A relatively new Bay Area convention. GMs should submit games by mid-April. Preregister at reduced price by end of February.

WisCon: Late May in Madison, WI

WisCon is a feminist science-fiction convention. However, I have run a role-playing game there in 1997, and moderated a panel on "Gender in Gaming" in 2006. Next year I hope to run another game or two.

Conventions I Attended in Years Past

Origins: July 4th weekend in Columbus, OH

I haven't been to Origins in many years, but I have fond memories of it.

 

Strategicon/Gamex: Late May in Los Angeles, CA

An Los Angeles area local gaming convention, I went to two of these during the two years I was working at UC Irvine.

Conventions I May Attend in the Future

DragonFlight: August 26-28, 2005 in Seattle

A local Northwest gaming convention.

 

GenCon SoCal: Nov 17-20 in Anaheim, CA

This isn't quite local to the Bay Area, but large enough and close enough that it's worth mentioning. GMs should submit events for registration by August 2.

 

PolyCon: Jun 24 - 26 in San Luis Obispo, CA

A small central coast gaming convention, supposedly running since 1983 at Cal Polytech SU. Since it's semi-local (2.5 hours drive), I might check it out.

ProtoCon: September 15-17 in College Station, TX

A small gaming convention at Texas A&M University, hosted by the gaming club there. It's about an hour outside of Houston, where my parents-in-law live, so could be combined with a visit.
